Implants
What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a long-term, discreet solution for replacing missing or failing teeth.
A dental implant itself is a titanium screw that is placed directly into your jawbone, replacing the root of your missing tooth.
Once placed, the bone surrounding your implant will gradually integrate with it, holding it in place.
After a period of healing, a false tooth (crown) is then fitted to the implant. This is designed to be similar in shape, size and shade of your existing teeth, to allow it to blend in naturally with your smile.
Additional Procedures
Occasionally, insufficient bone is found around the implant site. Artificial bone can be added at the time of implant placement or separately and left to heal.
Denture Wearers
After the placement of an implant, the under surface of dentures may require modification to adapt to the implant. This may weaken the denture and breakage may occur and repair may be necessary. The use of denture adhesive may help keep the denture in place during the healing period.
Home Care
Implants like teeth, may suffer from gum disease resulting in loss of bone. Daily removal of plaque from implants will prevent this occurring. Continued loss of bone may lead to failure of the implant.
